About the Program
The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design program of the University of Mindanao is a professional degree program implemented in compliance with CMO No. 44 s. 2017. The program provides students with foundational and advanced competencies in interior design, including design theory, technical knowledge, research, and professional practice, to prepare them for entry into the interior design profession and related fields.
Consistent with the University of Mindanao’s vision and mission, the program ensures the delivery of quality, accessible, and innovative education and upholds the institutional core values of excellence, integrity, accountability, professionalism, and social responsibility. Graduates are prepared for professional licensure, multidisciplinary collaboration, and responsible practice, contributing to the advancement of the interior design profession and the improvement of the built environment.
Program Educational Objectives
Three to five years after graduation, the graduates are expected to:
- Graduates shall be able to demonstrate critical and analytical thinking of the principles, philosophies and theoretical frameworks of the discipline;
- Graduates shall be able to develop humanistic values and ethics of the interior design discipline in relation to health, safety, environment and public welfare issues that confront the discipline
- Graduates shall be able to respond to the needs and demands of society and its integration into the social, economic, cultural and environmental aspects of nation building for sustainable development
Student Outcomes
By the time of graduation, the students of the program shall have the ability to:
- Identify, analyze, and solve interior design problems.
- Formulate and implement design concepts, strategies and/or approaches using new technology in interior design
- Integrate theories, current issues, and design philosophies
- Demonstrate knowledge of history of arts and period styles, materials of décor, furniture design, building construction, utilities and legislation, and color studies
- Function and assimilate within a collaborative framework effectively
- Articulate design proposals through visual, oral, written and virtual communication
- Practice ethical professional values
- Perform according to interior design global standards
- Exhibit sensitivity to cultural, social, and environmental issues and advocacies
