About UM Global
The University of Mindanao, then the Mindanao Colleges, was founded on July 27, 1946. Being the largest private, non-sectarian university in Mindanao, it caters 40,000+ students from all parts of Mindanao. The University of Mindanao has ten branches spread over thirteen campuses in Southern Mindanao. It is currently an Autonomous Status per CEB Resolution No. 076-2009 with Category A (t) per CMO No. s. 2009 standing accredited by Commission on Higher Education (CHED). UM is also the first academic institution in Mindanao with an institutional ISO 9001:2008 Certification. The Information Technology, Accountancy, and Computer Engineering programs are Centers of Development (COD) and its Teacher Education, Business Administration, and Criminology programs are considered as a Center of Excellence (COE) by CHED.
It is the largest private university in Mindanao and hailed as the institution with the second highest number of programs accredited by PACUCOA in the country today.
The UM Term System
The University aims to give world class quality of education within the convenience of the student’s time. Thus the University adopts the so-called “Term System”. Under the UM Term System, students will be required to take at least 4 or 5 course loads in any given term and finish the program within the required number of years. As such, students will be able to complete at least 4 course loads in a term (equivalent to 2 ½ months) compared to regular semester with 8 or 9 courses. Examinations, quizzes and assignment will be focused and will guarantee the students’ quality study time.
Life in the University
Being the largest university in Mindanao, it caters to 40,000+ students coming from different parts of the region. The UM community is a home to various indigenous and religious communities. Thus it creates opportunity for the students to not only develop intellectual skills but also engage in a cross-cultural setting where students can break boundaries of differences through cross-cultural understanding.
Established in 1946, UM continues to sustain its vision in providing quality transformative education. Proof of this are the awards given to the university such as Autonomous Status A (t) by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Centers of Excellence and Development, Levels III and IV programs, and several recognitions and fellowships on research and instruction in the local, national, and international levels and the certification from ISO.
In order to achieve these awards and citations, the University ensures that its academic support functions accordingly to realize its goal to attain excellence in all of its endeavors. Facilities are present to adequately support students’ needs especially in research, the liberal arts, and real-life training. It is in this approach that the University integrates real-life education which is on par with the national and international demands.
International Programs
The University of Mindanao offers exchange student programs to its students. These two are: AIMS and UMAP. The AIMS (ASEAN International Mobility for Students) aims to create a vibrant student mobility program for citizens of all SEAMEO. This program is only offered to students who are enrolled under the Engineering and International Business programs. The UMAP (University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific) aims to achieve enhanced international understanding through increased mobility of university students and staff. This program is offered to students who are enrolled in any Level II programs of the University.
