UM counts membership to the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)

The University of Mindanao now counts itself as a proud member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, a feat that is reflective of the school's commitment to pursuing globally relevant and transformative education.

This milestone reflects UM's unwavering commitment to advancing sustainability in tourism and hospitality education and contributing to the global movement toward responsible, inclusive, and regenerative tourism practices. As an institution that envisions creating a sustainable impact on society, UM recognizes that sustainability is not merely a trend—it is a shared responsibility.

This new endeavor is deeply rooted in the University of Mindanao's core values of Excellence, Innovation, Honesty and Integrity, and Teamwork. Through GSTC membership, we strengthen our commitment to preparing future tourism and hospitality leaders who are equipped to address sustainability challenges and create meaningful change in their communities and destinations.

Our journey toward sustainability has been years in the making. The current GSTC membership builds on earlier efforts, including the attainment of the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism by several faculty members during the pandemic, demonstrating that sustainability has long been embedded in our academic endeavors.

This endeavor also complements our existing international affiliations with the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE), further expanding our global engagement and collaboration in tourism and hospitality education.

The College of Hospitality Education of the University of Mindanao remains steadfast in promoting sustainability, innovation, and internationalization in graduate education. We invite students, industry partners, and fellow advocates to join us as we work toward a more sustainable and resilient tourism future.
