Wired for Progress: House Wiring Skills Training for Brgy. Los Amigos

Drug reformists and their family members benefited from the training sponsored by the College of Engineering Education last May 16 to June 13, 2026 under the project "Wired for Progress: House Wiring Skills Training” in partnership with the Community Extension Center.

This extension initiative was conducted in Barangay Los Amigos, Tugbok District, Davao City over five (5) consecutive Saturdays.

To recall, this initiative marked the second series of skills training implemented in the barangay.  It was conducted in response to the findings of the University’s evaluation research on the Community-Based Rehabilitation and Aftercare Program (CBRAP), undertaken in January 2020 which revealed that the respondents needed livelihood opportunities and skills training to help them sustain their daily household needs and maintain their recovery.

Throughout the training, the participants learned essential skills such as installing and maintaining electrical components and fixtures. Special emphasis was placed on the basics of 3-way switch and photo switch installations, providing practical knowledge applicable to real-world electrical work. The successful project implementation was also made possible through the dedicated service of nine (9) faculty members and forty-seven (47) student volunteers whose time, expertise and mentoring during hands-on demonstrations have produced skilled electricians in the community of Barangay Los Amigos.

The project Wired for Progress culminated in a competency-based assessment which all participants passed and each was provided a starter kit. The kits from the University were given to help them begin house-wiring repair and installation services. Additionally, the project contributes to UN SDG 1 on No Poverty by creating sustainable livelihood for the beneficiaries; UN SDG 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth as the project sought to empower participants to pursue potential career opportunities in electrical installation and maintenance; and UN SDG 17 Partnership for the Goals as this collaborative approach brough inclusive and sustainable development for the recovering individuals in the community of Los Amigos, Davao City. Part of the organizer's future plans is to connect the training completers to industry partners to explore job prospects in the coming months.
