Bringing Comfort in A Time of Crisis: UM Relief Operation in Small Margus, Glan, Sarangani

The University of Mindanao Community Extension Center successfully conducted a Relief Operation in Brgy. Small Margus, Glan, Sarangani on June 20, 2026, in response to the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck parts of General Santos City and Sarangani Province last June 8, 2026. Through the collective efforts of various stakeholders, the relief assistance reached seven hundred twenty-three (723) residents from the ten (10) Puroks of the barangay, providing basic necessities to affected families.

The relief operation drive gathered essential items such as rice, ready-to-eat food (including canned goods, instant noodles, biscuits, milk, coffee, and other hot beverages), toiletries, and water. Household essentials were also gathered such as trapal sacks used for tents, mats, blankets, water jugs, buckets, and mosquito nets. These donations came from the generous hearts of the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and industry partners of UM Main, UM Tagum, UM Panabo, UM PeƱaplata, and UM Bansalan Colleges.

Prior to the distribution activity, the Community Extension Center closely coordinated with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of Glan, Sarangani Province, and the Barangay Council of Small Margus to ensure compliance with the safety protocols established by the Local Government Unit (LGU). Joining the relief mission team was the Vice-Chair of the Philippine Society for NSTP Educators and Implementers, Inc. (PSNEI), who guided the group to the area and assisted in the distribution of relief goods.
