University of Mindanao Joins SALIKSync Conference to Advance Research Commercialization and Innovation Linkages
The University of Mindanao (UM) continues to strengthen its commitment to research innovation and technology commercialization as it participated in the SALIKSync: 1st National Impact Conference held in Bacolod City on November 6, 2025. The event gathered key players in the Philippine innovation ecosystem to align national efforts toward advancing technology transfer and the market deployment of academic research outputs.
Representing the University of Mindanao were Dr. Khino J. Parohinog, OIC–Director of the Institute of Emerging Technologies under the Research and Innovation Center, Engr. Jetron Adtoon, UMasenso Hub Manager, and Ms. Dyle Legaspi, Intellectual Property and Technology Support Office (ITSO) Manager. Their participation reflects UM’s growing role in strengthening innovation networks and translating research into tangible solutions that benefit industries and communities.
A key highlight of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among grantees of the Innovation, Market Promotion of Academic Commercial Technologies (IMPACT) Program of DOST–PCIEERD, alongside the launch of the IMPACT NXT Projects—a next-stage initiative designed to advance and scale market-ready research outputs. This milestone demonstrates the collective commitment of universities and national agencies to accelerate technology transfer, commercialization, and innovation-driven development across the country.
UM’s engagement in the IMPACT Program aligns with its ongoing initiatives in research translation, entrepreneurship, and the institutionalization of technology transfer systems. Through its UMasenso Hub, Institute of Emerging Technologies, and ITSO, the university continues to build pathways that enable academic innovations to evolve into practical, high-impact applications in the real world.
The IMPACT NXT initiative also seeks to expand regional innovation linkages by fostering collaboration among research institutions, government agencies, and industry partners. Participants included representatives from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), DOST–PCIEERD, the Association of Technology Transfer Professionals of the Philippines, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and various higher education and research institutions nationwide.
SALIKSync marked a defining moment in the Philippines’ innovation landscape—synchronizing ideas, partnerships, and actions to build a stronger national impact network for science, technology, and innovation.
Through its active participation, the University of Mindanao reaffirms its commitment to supporting the country’s innovation agenda and to empowering Mindanao’s research ecosystem to create sustainable and inclusive solutions for the future.
