UM holds 2nd drone pilot certification training

The University of Mindanao, through its nascent Drone Academy - to be the first of its kind in the Philippines - recently finished its second drone pilot certification course last October 4-6, 2024 at the university's open grounds.

This is the second batch of cohorts certified by the Aerial Drone, the drone training arm certified by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). The first one was held last April 13-15, and 20, 2024.

UM now has a solid batch of 61 trained and certified drone pilots in its ranks from the academic and academic support units. This prepares the university to establish and offer drone programs.

The Drone Academy is an innovative program designed by the Academic Affairs in collaboration with the College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFAE), College of Arts and Sciences Education (CASE), College of Computing Education (CCE), College of Engineering Education (CEE), College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), College of Teacher Education (CTE), and College of Business Administration Education (CBAE). The drone pilot certification covers the Philippine Civil Aviation Regulation (Air Law Part 11), basic aircraft physics of flight, drone safety checks, and drone flight maneuvers. (RVAmorado)
