Energy

The University of Mindanao demonstrates a strong and continuing commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible resource management through the continuous improvement of its campus operations. A key focus of this commitment is the reduction of energy consumption and the enhancement of energy efficiency across all university facilities. Based on the current campus inventory, the university operates 2,231 LED lamps, 892 ceiling fans, 913 air conditioning units, and 67 solar LED street lights. These figures reflect the scale of energy use within the institution and highlight the growing importance of efficient energy management in lowering operational costs while minimizing environmental impact.

In response to these challenges, the university is actively strengthening its energy management strategies to achieve further energy savings across all sectors of the campus. Departments and units are encouraged to regularly assess and monitor their energy consumption, enabling them to identify areas where efficiency can be improved and unnecessary energy use can be reduced. The university continues to implement a range of energy-saving measures, including building insulation improvements, the widespread use of LED lighting systems, the procurement of energy-efficient appliances and equipment, and the adoption of sustainable technologies. In addition, strict energy conservation practices are enforced, requiring all occupants to switch off lights, air conditioning units, and other electrical equipment when not in use or when rooms are unoccupied, ensuring that energy is not wasted unnecessarily.

Together, these initiatives reflect the university’s deep commitment to building a more sustainable and climate-resilient campus. They not only promote responsible energy use and environmental stewardship but also contribute directly to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, these efforts align with the sustainability agenda of the United Nations, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action), reinforcing the university’s role in advancing energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and long-term climate action.
