Its holistic design makes it a replicable model for other cities seeking to implement inclusive and locally embedded rehabilitation systems that go beyond punitive approaches.

Teacher Education Reaches Out to an IP School for a Reading Tutorial Program

The College of Teacher Education (CTE), through its student organization AGENT (Association of Generalist Teachers), once again demonstrated its commitment to education by distributing learning materials to Bagobo Tagabawa pupils in Barangay Catigan. This outreach activity complemented CTE’s extension initiative, “Pagpaambit sa Kinaadman,” which recently concluded a three-month Reading Intervention Program at Catigan Elementary School.

Magbasa Para May Pag-asa: UM Penaplata's SDG 4 Model for Literacy and Hope

UM Peñaplata College is committed to bridging educational gaps through its community-based reading tutorial program, a literacy campaign that delivers free, inclusive, and bilingual reading support to underserved learners. Since its launch in 2022, the initiative has helped over 300 elementary pupils from both public and private schools enhance their reading skills, comprehension, and confidence in learning.

Community Extension Center Empowers Project Implementers Through Research Writeshop

Serving as mentors were Dr. Joel Tan, Assistant Vice President for Business and Social Sciences Studies, and AVP Sitti L. Apadan of the Community Extension Center, who provided expert guidance and valuable insights. The write shop offered participants a platform to present their research proposals while receiving constructive feedback to refine their clarity, structure, and methodological soundness. The initiative not only strengthened participants’ research writing skills but also promoted accountability by ensuring that extension projects are measurable and impactful.

Smart Information Systems for Sustainable Governance, Education, and Public Service

The College of Computing Education (CCE) leads projects that utilize technology to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of education, governance, and public services. These include:

  • Smart Information Systems with DOST and LGUs to increase transparency and data protection
  • eSTEP and StuFAPs, which help CHED and Davao City’s EBSU manage scholarship programs
  • A Smart Building System and ICT Mapping project to help with energy use and planning
  • A Hospital Information System for the PNP Health Service and a Human Resource System for the 45th Special Action Company
