Identified solo parents form Brgy. Los Amigos in Davao city obtained new livelihood skills in dishwashing liquid making as the Chemical Engineering Program successfully implemented its Banner Project: โ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ด๐น๐ฎ๐จ๐ โ ๐ ๐๐ต๐ ๐ฉ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ต๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ IV,โ last Jan. 16-17, 2026.
The training was attended by 22 participants who enthusiastically engaged in creating sustainable, eco-friendly dishwashing liquid. This livelihood initiative stems from the expressed need of Brgy. Los Amigos for more livelihood opportunities, particularly for women and disadvantaged groups. Aside from making dishwashing liquid, the beneficiaries were also guided in product costing, labeling, and basic marketing strategies, such as using social media to promote their products.
This initiative was delivered by 12 faculty members and 27 students from the Chemical Engineering Program, who were designated group tasks to make the extension project possible. Recognizing the importance of sustaining techno-transfer, the University Extension Program allocated funds that the community can use as start-up capital.
Inspired by the desire to start a micro-enterprise, the solo parent participants agreed to elect a set of officers who would commit their time and effort to grow their project, earn additional income, and reduce economic vulnerability. Project PaglaUM contributes to UN SDG 1 on No Poverty as the community gained practical knowledge and skills to kickstart livelihood alternatives, especially for the vulnerable sector, in this case, the solo parents of UMโs partner barangay. Additionally, the project aligns itself to UN SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth with the creation of micro-enterprises that can generate jobs for its members and UN SDG 17 โ Partnership for the Goals by fostering meaningful collaboration between the academe and barangay local government in addressing livelihood challenges.
