UM Busog, Lusog Program: Addressing Student Hunger in the Campus
The University of Mindanao in collaboration with the Alumni Affairs Office successfully conducted over 18 on-campus feeding sessions serving over 4,303 students through the Busog, Lusog Feeding program.
Launched in September 17, 2025, with strong support from the University administration and the UM Alumni Affairs Inc., the program provides supplemental meals to students, particularly those who come to school without breakfast or lack the financial means to buy food on campus. Aligning with UN SDG 2 on Zero Hunger, this initiative ensures that students receive adequate nutrition and have the energy needed to actively participate in their classes and enhance their learning experience.
The Community Extension Center also coordinated and mobilized various student organizations to assist with every feeding session. These included the Council of College Student Governments (CCSG), the Council of Student Organizations (CSO), the College Student Government of the College of Business Administration Education (CSG-CBAE), and the Advance Officers of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC).
In addition to the generous contributions of internal stakeholders and UM alumni donors, the program received valuable support from the City Government of Davao, which donated cauldrons of hot arrozcaldo during several feeding sessions. This partnership significantly contributed to the successful implementation and sustainability of the program.
The Busog, Lusog Feeding Program was implemented across the University of Mindanao’s Matina and Bolton campuses from September 17, 2025, until May 16, 2026. Throughout the implementation period, students who benefited from the program expressed their gratitude for the free, nutritious meals, which helped them ease their hunger during school hours. Many also expressed appreciation for the University’s continued commitment to student welfare and hoped for the expansion of similar student-centered initiatives in the future.
