UM CHE Showcases Culinary Excellence at Davao Culinary Cup 2026
Excellence in culinary arts was once again demonstrated by the University of Mindanao – College of Hospitality Education (UM CHE) as its BS Hospitality Management students, faculty, and coaches garnered multiple awards at the Davao Culinary Cup (DCC) 2026, powered by Philippine Culinary Cup Season 8, held at SMX Convention Center Davao, Davao City, from June 18–20, 2026.
The competition showcased the creativity, skills, and dedication of UM CHE students, faculty, and coaches, who earned numerous awards across different culinary categories. Gold Awards were won by Chef Ma. Rina Quilestino, Assistant Dean of UM-CHE (Wedding Cake) and the student team of Mae Anne Servidad and Kriesha Liam Felicity Villocino (Cupcakes and Desserts). Silver Awards were earned by Irene Cando (Pasta), Ching Malingin (Modern Filipino Plated Dessert), and the team of Roselle Joyce Quimsing (faculty) and Princess Lucille Cordova (Cupcakes and Muffins). Bronze Awards were received by Dr. Dindo Silud, Dean of UM-CHE (Themed Cake), Jairah Sabidalas (Pasta), Jomar Martinez (Dress the Cake), Geraldine Denopol (Dress the Cake), Caryl Loraine De Guzman (Creative Breakfast), Allysa Joyce Arduo and Kem Crexen Gonzaga (faculty) (Plated Dessert), Quennie Mae Magarao (Modern Filipino Plated Dessert), Christian Darwin Nacua (Poultry), Chalmer Toquero and Christine Kate Separa (Filipino Cuisine Challenge), and John Rownan Alba and Louis Sangadi (Young Chefs Team Challenge). These achievements highlight the college’s commitment to excellence in culinary arts, innovation, and hospitality education.
UM CHE also extends recognition to its faculty coaches specially Dr. Kiven G. Olivar as the Head Coach of BSHM team and industry mentors, Chef May P. Arce, Chef Edward Gador (BSHRM alumnus) and Chef Elaine Dale Navales-Balahay, whose guidance and unwavering support contributed greatly to the team's success. These achievements reflect the university’s commitment to academic excellence, industry relevance, and the development of highly skilled hospitality professionals.
