University of Mindanao confers Doctor of Laws honorary degree to Presidential Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea
The Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa), one of the highest recognition and most prestigious citation the University of Mindanao can confer was awarded to Presidential Executive Secretary Atty. Salvador C. Medialdea at the 40th Mid-year Commencement Exercises of the university last Wednesday, November 27.
Atty. Medialdea, who spent a portion of his elementary years in UM, served as commencement speaker to the more than 1, 400 graduates of this year’s graduation exercises.
He is recognized for espousing the university’s core values of Excellence, Honesty and Integrity, Innovation, and Teamwork in the field of Law and Governance.
He was introduced by Atty. J. Melchor Quitain, Davao’s former city administrator who now currently sits as an undersecretary of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“I felt like I was coming home,” said Atty. Medialdea in his address, referring to his being asked to speak at the commencement exercise.
He added that he was a ‘testament’ of how UM changes lives, and he placed importance on the participation of schools in shaping its students to become better individuals.
“Armed with a good education, the world is yours to conquer,” said Atty. Medialdea in his address to the graduates.
Apart from its esteemed guests, UM’s commencement exercises also honor the collective efforts of the parents, teachers, and the students themselves in the pursuit of knowledge and self-improvement.
