PACUCOA accreditors begin assessment of UM
The accreditation team from the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) arrived Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the Matina campus to assess the programs of the University of Mindanao.
The PACUCOA accrediting team led by Dr. Elisa Maligalig will be looking into the current practices of some of the university's undergraduate and graduate programs, and based on their findings, will recommend points for improvement prior to accreditation.
The programs up for PACUCOA assessment include the Bachelor of Science in Accounting Technology for their Level 2 reaccreditation, while the following programs are set for their Preliminary Visit: Doctorate in Management and Doctorate in Applied Linguistics, Bachelor of Science in Biology, Bachelor in Multimedia Arts, Bachelor of Science in Multimedia Arts, Bachelor of Science in Information System, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Bachelor of Science in Legal Management.
The PACUCOA team will also talk to students and faculty in a bid not just to rate the school's programs, but to also learn about its unique school culture and how UM operates as a whole with all its stakeholders, said Dr. Maligalig.
"You've already gone far in your improvements over the years, and we hope to continue working with UM to help you go even farther," said Dr. Maligalig in her address to the university officials at the opening program held at the DPT Building conference room.
The University of Mindanao is recognized by PACUCOA as having the most number of accredited programs in Mindanao, and several of its colleges are also recognized as Centers of Development and Centers of Excellence.
The PACUCOA accrediting team will hold their accreditation until Saturday, October 5, and return again for another round of assessment for the main campus in November, and the UM Tagum branch in December.
