Investing in future leaders
The University welcomes back its students who jetted off to Thailand last Aug. 25 to attend the prestigious AUAP-PIM Global Leadership Program at Panyapiwat Institute of Management in Bangkok.
Yvette Mariz Balayon, a senior AB Mass Communication student and editor-in-chief of Primum, and Reynante Vizcara, a junior taking up BS Criminology as well as being the External Vice President of the Council of College Student Government represented the University in the five-day leadership program from Aug. 26- 31.
Ms. Balayon shared that speaking with the different trainers and other student-participants in the leadership program was eye-opening on the urgency of instilling a mindset of leadership in students.
“[We] really need to invest on leadership today for the future of the next generation most especially that we are now on a disruptive world. Our leaders today are not getting younger, sooner or later, they will be replaced and it is a great idea that they train student leaders in order to prepare for the betterment of our society in the near future,” said Balayon.
She added that aside from the learning opportunity, events like the AUAP-PIM global leadership program was also a chance to expand her horizons.
“Amidst the diversity of culture, we are able to unite and build a common goal which is to make this world a worth-living place for the next generation,” she said.
Co-organized by the Association of Universities in Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) and the Panyapiwat Institute of Management (PIM), the leadership program is among the regularly organized events by AUAP to gather member academic institutions in Asia and the Pacific to discuss important issues and challenges facing higher education.
“AUAP promotes and helps enhance mutually beneficial cooperation among educational institutions, and is dedicated to render such services to its member institutions,” it stated in their website.
