Mr. Pedro “Pete” San Jose, a native of Arayat, Pampanga, is a respected educator, civic leader, and public servant. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from the Far Eastern University in Manila and earned his Master of Arts from the University of Mindanao and the Harvardian University in Davao City in July 1953.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. San Jose has held various leadership roles in community and civic organizations. He currently serves as President of the New Christ the King Cathedral Building Commission, President of Region XI Government Retirees Association, Region XI Home-for-the-Aged (Tagum Friends of the Home), and the Davao del Norte Government Retirees Association. He is also Vice Chairman for Council Administration of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Davao del Norte Council.
Mr. San Jose’s political involvement includes serving as Barangay Councilor of Magugpo, Tagum (1964–1968) and as Provincial Board Member of Davao del Norte (1987–1995). He was instrumental in crafting ordinances establishing the College Provincial Scholarship Grant—the first of its kind in the Philippines—and the Provincial Subdivision Grant, which provided residential lots for lowly employees.
He has also represented Davao del Norte in numerous athletic and sports events, including the Palarong Pambansa, National PRISAA, Mindanao Sports Summits, and SMRAA meets across the country.
He was also awarded by the Holy See a Papal Award Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (for the Church and Pope), the highest medal awarded to the laity by the Pope dated February 2017. He was also awarded Solemn Investiture dated April 13, 2017, at the Christ the King Cathedral.
A recipient of numerous distinctions, Mr. San Jose has received 8 trophies and 37 plaques of recognition and appreciation for his exceptional contributions to education, church, and community development. In 1999, the UM gym in Tagum Gymnasium was named Pedro B. San Jose Gymnasium in his honor, and in the same year, he was recognized nationally as a Huwarang Pamilyang Pilipino Awardee.
He joined the University of Mindanao as a member of the Board of Trustees in 2000.
