DR. GUILLERMO P. TORRES, JR.

Dr. Guillermo P. Torres, Jr., Ed.D., is a respected Filipino educator, media executive, businessman, and civic leader. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board and President of several institutions, including GET Holdings, Inc., the University of Mindanao (UM), UM Broadcasting Network UMBN), Mount Apo Science Foundation, Inc., and other key ventures in education, media, real estate, hospitality, and healthcare across Mindanao and Metro Manila.

Dr. Torres holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Management from the University of Mindanao (2004), and was conferred a Doctor of Philosophy in Commercial Science, Honoris Causa, by the John Dewey University Consortium of America in New Jersey, USA. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio (1981), and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from De La Salle University, Manila (1975). His early education includes a high school diploma from Port Huron High School in Michigan, USA (1971), and elementary studies at Don Bosco Technical Institute in Makati (1967).

He was conferred the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Philippine Army Reserve, serving as Battalion Commander of the 1st Signal PAARU, Ready Reserve Battalion, ARESCOM. He is also active in civic and professional organizations, currently serving as President of the Davao Association of Colleges and Universities Network (DACUN),  American Chamber Mindanao, Datu Bago Awards Inc., and past President of the Rotary Club of West Davao (RY 2001–2002). He is a member of various local and international business and sports clubs.

Among his numerous accolades is the Datu Bago Award (2011), Davao City’s highest honor. He is the lead awardee 2017 by the Davao JCI Senate. He also has lifetime achievement award 2025 by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), and the Lasallian Achiever in Media Award from De La Salle University (2004).

Born on August 17, 1955, he is the son of the late Atty. Guillermo E. Torres and Dolores Pilpil. He is married to Elizabeth S. Dizon, with whom he has two children, Paolo Roberto and Maria Isabelle.

President Torres became a member of the Board of Trustees on November 1, 1986.
