UM Communication studes commemorate Davao Media Freedom Day
Selected students from the Communication program of the College of Arts and Sciences Education and other students from different universities joined journalists from Davao city in commemorating the 10th Davao Media Freedom Day.
An annual observance of the brutality of the Maguindanao Massacre, regarded as one of the worst examples of violence perpetrated against journalists, Davao Media Freedom Day brings together students of the Communication discipline to be able to hear from long-time media practitioners their accounts of what is like weathering politics, current events, and changing technologies; while staying true to the tenets of being in the field. There are also highly informative seminars on news writing, as well as how journalism has evolved to match the reading, listening, and viewing habits of the current times.
Held last Nov. 21 at Ateneo de Davao University, the event had the theme "Traditional Media in the Digital Age" and students also had the opportunity to participate in a forum with the local journalists.
