UM-CHE Coastal Clean-Up: Bayanihan para sa Kalikasan

On February 21, 2026, the UM-CHE Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) graduating OJT students (Batch 2025) conducted a coastal clean-up activity in Tambongon, Barangay Lasang, Davao City. This initiative was part of the University’s community extension program entitled “Bayanihan para sa Kalikasan.”

The activity aimed to promote environmental protection and community involvement through collective action. It supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life Below Water), and 15 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through this effort, students contributed to maintaining coastal cleanliness and raising awareness about responsible waste management and environmental stewardship.

More than a requirement for their OJT, the activity became an expression of social responsibility and service. It reflected the University of Mindanao’s core values, especially leadership and gawi (positive conduct and work ethic), as students demonstrated initiative, teamwork, and concern for the community and the environment.
