Dr. Torres Welcomes Balik Scientist Dr. Onggo in Courtesy Visit
In a gesture that underscores the institution’s deepening commitment to research excellence and global scientific engagement, Dr. Guillermo P. Torres, President and CEO of the University of Mindanao, formally welcomed Balik Scientist Dr. Lowela S. Onggo during a courtesy visit at the Office of the President on February 13, 2026.
The visit marked more than a ceremonial call. It symbolized the University’s strategic alignment with the Philippines’ Balik Scientist Program—an initiative designed to harness the expertise of Filipino scientists abroad and reintegrate their knowledge into local research ecosystems. Dr. Onggo, newly hosted under a medium-term engagement under the Philippines Council for Health Research and Development, brings with her a wealth of international research experience that is expected to strengthen institutional capacity, foster innovation, and elevate collaborative research outputs.
Joining the courtesy meeting were Maria Linda Arquiza, Vice President for Research and Innovation, and Charlyn T. Gorgonio, Director of the Institute of Biodiversity and Environment, along with other key academic leaders. Their presence reflected a unified institutional approach—linking executive leadership, research administration, and specialized institutes in advancing science-driven development.
Her engagement started last February 9, 2026 and will end on August 9, 2026.
