LUMINA 2026 Concludes with a Resounding Celebration of Research, Innovation, and Academic Excellence
The University of Mindanao successfully concluded LUMINA 2026: Joint Research Conference on Economy, Enterprise, Social Welfare, and Human Development, bringing together researchers, educators, students, industry partners, and academic leaders in a dynamic convergence of ideas, discoveries, and collaboration. Anchored on the University's commitment to advancing research and innovation, the conference served as a vibrant platform for showcasing scholarly excellence and fostering partnerships that contribute to sustainable development.
The conference opened with messages from University officials, followed by a keynote address delivered by Dr. Mirasol B. Tiu, President of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., who underscored the importance of research-driven innovation in addressing contemporary societal and economic challenges. This was complemented by two plenary sessions featuring distinguished experts from North Valley College Foundation and the University of Immaculate Concepcion, providing participants with valuable insights and inspiring discussions that set the tone for a day of academic engagement.
A highlight of the conference was the Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, where student researchers demonstrated their ability to communicate complex research in a concise and compelling manner before a panel of experts. Simultaneously, the conference featured Student Paper Parallel Presentations, allowing participants from various disciplines to present innovative studies, engage in scholarly discourse, and receive constructive feedback from evaluators and fellow researchers. Complementing these academic sessions was the Poster Exhibit, which provided another avenue for emerging researchers to showcase their work and interact with conference delegates in an engaging and collaborative environment.
The culmination of the conference celebrated excellence through the Conference Awarding Ceremony, recognizing outstanding poster presentations, exemplary student paper presenters, winners of the Three-Minute Thesis Competition, and recipients of the prestigious 2026 Research and Innovation Center (RIC) Awards. More than honoring individual achievements, the ceremony celebrated the dedication, creativity, and perseverance of researchers whose work continues to contribute to knowledge generation and societal advancement. The conference concluded with reflections from research coordinators, closing remarks, and a photo opportunity that symbolized the shared commitment of the academic community to continue building a culture of research excellence.
The success of LUMINA 2026 was made possible through the unwavering support of its distinguished speakers, evaluators, presenters, partner institutions, research coordinators, organizers, volunteers, and participants. Their collective dedication transformed the conference into more than an academic gathering—it became a meaningful celebration of collaboration, innovation, and the transformative power of research.
As the curtains close on another successful edition of LUMINA, the conference leaves behind a lasting legacy of intellectual exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a renewed commitment to addressing real-world challenges through research and innovation. Guided by its enduring vision of illuminating ideas and empowering communities, LUMINA continues to inspire researchers to create knowledge that advances industries, informs policies, and shapes a more sustainable and inclusive future. The University of Mindanao looks forward to welcoming the research community once again for LUMINA 2027, where new ideas will once again be transformed into meaningful impact.
