UM Chorale bags third in NAMCYA 2019 choir competition
The University of Mindanao made its presence felt among esteemed musicians across the country as it bagged third in the Adult Choir category in the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) 2019.
Held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the 24-member chorale with their coach, Mr. Timothy Paul Atencio, and adviser Mr. Jeric Telen, wowed the audience and judges with their rendition of the songs ‘Noche,’ ‘Mori Quas’il Mio Core,’ and ‘Ama Namin’. The chorale received their award last Sunday, Dec. 1, during the closing concert and awarding ceremonies.
According to their website, the NAMCYA has been pivotal in discovering major music talents across the Philippines and aid to develop these talents further through their three-fold program: First, discovering young musical talents through annual competitions; second, developing these musicians further through regular workshops and training, and lastly, enhancing and expanding their appreciation of Filipino music through “mandated competition repertoire programs and commissioning of new works.”
Mr. Telen added there are more competitions the chorale plans to enter both here and abroad to further showcase the talent and mettle of the UM Chorale. (photo courtesy of UM Chorale)
