CHSE Joins 10th Mindanao Research Convention, Faculty Presenters Soar as Champions



The College of Health and Sciences Education (CHSE) once again demonstrated its research excellence and commitment to innovation as its faculty and student researchers shone at the 10th Mindanao Research Convention, bringing home top awards and recognition. The event gathered some of Mindanao`s brightest minds in health and education research at the Farm at Carpenter Hills, City of Koronadal, South Cotabato, and CHSE proudly emerged as a strong contender among participating institutions. 

During the  Faculty Oral Presentation, Ms. Rio Cielo S. Pasion, RPG, MSPharm, emerged as champion with her groundbreaking study titled “Unveiling the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices of Health Care Professionals Towards Antimicrobial Stewardship Program in a Tertiary Hospital in Davao City: A Convergent Approach.” Her research emphasized the crucial role of healthcare professionals in combating antimicrobial resistance, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being by promoting responsible medical practices and public health awareness.

In the Faculty Poster Presentation, Dr. Roel Nickelson M. Solano, RMT, MSMT, together with co-authors Edrian S. Galicia, Julia Earl Y. Franco, and Floralyn C. Gemino, was hailed champion for their study titled “Isolation of Intestinal Parasites in Blue Bottle Fly (Calliphora vomitoria) Found in Selected Public Markets in Davao City.” Their work underscores the importance of environmental sanitation and disease prevention, contributing to the pursuit of healthier communities in line with SDG 3.

CHSE students also made their mark, showcasing their research prowess and commitment to addressing real-world health concerns. Mr. Jasper Abelis presented “The Talking Cane: A Phenomenological Study of the Lived Experiences of Geriatric Residents in Selected Nursing Care Homes in Davao City,” which explores the emotional and social dimensions of elderly care. With the presenter in the paper are Mr. John Jess Mar Leyrita, Mr. Harvey Joniel Petalcorin, and Ms. Gamelan Kate T. Mostero, RN, MAN.

Meanwhile, Ms. Czaira-Mikhaela B. Butcon shared her research “Caffeine Consumption Among Nutritionally At-Risk University of Mindanao Students: Basis in Developing a Mobile Application,” which advocates for student wellness and the use of technology for health promotion. Her co-author is Ms. Celestine Joy M. Ontolan and Mr. Sherwin P. Sollano, RMT, LPT, Med-EM.

Through these remarkable achievements, CHSE reinforces its leadership in advancing research that supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The college’s success at the 10th Mindanao Research Convention not only celebrates academic excellence but also highlights its continued dedication to collaboration, innovation, and community-centered research that uplifts lives across Mindanao and beyond.
