UM partners with PSC for grassroots sports development
The Philippine Sports Commission and the University of Mindanao inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that guarantees mutual cooperation in the creation and implementation of grassroots sports development in Mindanao.
UM President Dr. Guillermo Torres Jr. and PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez signed the MOA on April 26 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
Witnessing the signing were PSC Commissioners Celia Kiram, Arnold Agustin, and Charles Raymond Maxey; along with Executive Director Atty. Guillermo Iroy Jr, Deputy Executive Director Merlita Ibay and Dir. Christine Abellana and Chief of Staff and National Training Director Marc Edward Velasco.
The MOA is dubbed a "historic" one by the Daily Tribune and as it is outline in the MOA that PSC will provide technical and financial support for the creation and development of sports programs and athletes, while UM is tasked to assure its sustainability.
In its Matina campus, UM opened the 400-meter oval rubberized oval track along with other sporting facilities that allow for games like soccer, track and field, shot putt, javelin, and other games and sports. It also served as one of the venues for the 2019 Palarong Pambansa.
UM is an active partner of various sporting organizations in the city and across the country, and served athlete-scholars not just in their development as athletes, but as academically competent students as well.
