UM scientist bags prestigious award from German government
The University of Mindanao's Dr. Chosel Lawagon won the prestigious Green Talents Award from Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research for her work on upcycling waste through nanotechnology.
Dr. Lawagon, the Director of University of Mindanao's Center for Green Nanotechnology Innovations for Environmental Solutions is one of the awardees from entries across the world to the "Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development" which is an international competition for outstanding young scientists who push for projects that promote sustainability in their communities.
Dr. Lawagon was among the 25 selected by a panel of German experts from among 467 applicants from 78 countries, according to the Philippine Embassy in Germany.
As a recipient of the award, she is set to travel to Germany next year to conduct research with a German institution of her choosing.
Currently, her work includes research on the impact of landfill leachate on nearby rivers in Davao city along with personnel from the UM College of Engineering and College of Arts and Sciences Education.
