UM Debate Society reps shine in Asian English Olympics in Indonesia
Two UMians clinched the top spots for best speaker award at the recent Asian English Olympics at Binus University in Jakarta, Indonesia, as well being the only Philippine representatives to the esteemed debate competition.
University of Mindanao Debate Society senior members Florence Desiata and Mico Niel Abad won as the first and third best speakers, respectively, and bested more than 600 participants from eight countries and more than a hundred schools and universities.
The Asian English Olympics started in 2012 as a country-wide interschool competition in Indonesia before snowballing into what it today, involving neighboring Asian countries to compete in eight fields: Debate, Speech, Storytelling, Newscasting, Spelling Bee, Scrabble, Short Story Writing, and Radio Drama.
