
UM Graduate School Holds Research Fair

The activity was held at the UM Main Library and Information Center at Bolton Street, Davao City last May 12, 2012. The Research Fair was a forum for master’s and doctoral graduates of the University to showcase their research ideas and results through paper and poster presentations. It was participated by 14 doctoral graduates and 11 master’s graduates as presenters. Two hundred twelve graduate students and 21 graduate faculty of the University attended the activity. Two plenary speakers graced the occasion: Dr. Maricar Casquejo, CHED X1 OIC and Dr. Ida Patron, AVP of Philippine Women’s College of Davao. The first speaker talked on the Research Agenda in Graduate Education and the second speaker talked on Quantitative, Qualitative and Mixed Researches: Merits and Limitations. The paper presentation for quantitative researches was divided into three parallel sessions with four presenters for each group: Education Group, Business Group and Public Governance Group. All qualitative researches were presented in poster form and displayed in the session hall. All participants of the Research Fair were given the chance to judge the winning poster with the use of judging criteria. The winning poster was that of Dr. Clarence Pillerin, entitled Closet Gay Teachers in the Academe: Walking Through Pedagogical Incongruence, under the advisorship of Dr. Gloria Gempes. The poster presenters for the qualitative researches were as follows: Dr. Charlie Aspacio, Dr. Abraham Concepcion, Dr. Sylvia Dasalla, Dr. Elizabeth Dioso, Dr. Randy Fernandez, Dr. Voltaire Fernandez, Dr. Mary Jane Francisquete, Dr. Eufrosina Mines, Dr. Dinah, Oani, Dr. Hilda Opeña, Dr. Leonard Pajo, Dr. Clarence Pillerin and master’s graduate Rocky Palmera. For the paper presentation of quantitative researches the presenters were as follows: Dr. Priscella Bednar, Dr. Ronel Sudaria, and master’s graduates Mr. Rostand Tolentino, Ms. Marites Huqueriza, Ms. Carolyn Lauron, Mr. Arnel Alarcon, Ms. Ailyn Maguad, Mr. Christopher Biscocho, Mr. Cornelio Bautista, Ms. Leilah Academia and Mr. Abdulgani Andang. The first-rate evaluation of the participants on the success of the whole activity was made possible through the concerted effort of the management team: Graduate School Dean Dr. Eugenio Guhao, Jr., Research Fair Coordinator Dr. Gloria Gempes ; Facilitators Dr. Jocelyn Balili, Dr. Reynaldo Cuizon, Prof Reynaldo Castro, Ms. Rochelle Asuncion; and the Staff Margayle Gabiana, Araceli Tejano, Jhang Alonzo and Junrey Sevilla.
