UM inaugurates research hangar, the first university research hangar in Region XI
The University of Mindanao’s research hangar located at the Matina campus was officially inaugurated and had its blessing last Friday, September 28 with university president Dr. Guillermo P. Torres Jr. attending the ceremonies.
It is the only university research hangar in Region XI.
Touted as a facility where students and faculty can test out inventions and develop innovations, UM’s latest facility is a testament to its commitment of providing quality transformative education through the best facilities conducive to learning and application.
The research hangar was constructed earlier this year and has so far been on soft opening for students since August.
Ma. Linda Arquiza, the vice president for research added the research hangar also housed the Coleoptera Research Center, a facility committed to the study of beetle species in the country. It is a project in partnership with Daugavpils University in Latvia.
Dr. Torres in his address to the attendees said it was important that the university take on research as its thrust as it was “the cornerstone of development in any known human endeavor.”
“As an academic institution, it is our responsibility to discover, create, and advance knowledge and we do this through research,” he said.
Dr. Torres said that it was imperative the university furthers a climate of innovation and collaboration as it is the “barometer of institutional relevance and leadership.”
“We would like to provide a place where faculty and students can create, innovate, and commercialize,” added Dr. Torres.
