UM bags silver for business model presentation in Singapore ASLC 2018

Students coming from the University of Mindanao’s Senior High School, Marketing Management, Accounting Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Financial Management programs made waves in the recent Asian Student Leadership Conference (ASLC) 2018 in Singapore, taking home the silver medal for their business model presentation last July 28.

Among the top teams to best other schools from all over Asia, it is UM’s third time to send delegates to the international conference.

The UM delegation is composed of Wesley Alexis Ochoco and Brianne Kylle Dela Cruz, both in their 4th year taking up Marketing Management, Jeaneth Urbano, 4th year taking up Accounting Technology, Madellene Andrukow, 2nd year  taking up Entrepreneurship, Neil Kenichi Iwamoto, in his first year taking up Financial Management, and Juryvelle Mae Villanueva, Grade 12 from the Senior High School department.

Their submitted business model is a social enterprise idea about ‘memory sports,’ a program proposal dealing with common memory problems, and aims to develop methods to improve one’s memory.

However, their business proposal is not merely to generate profit, as there should be communities who benefit from their proposal; which in their case are the refugees who will be provided with shelter and commodities.

As one of their prizes for winning, the UM delegation will receive more training to hone their program so they can also have their respective functions within their proposed business.

According to the website, the ASLC is a ‘non-profit social enterprise dedicated to empower youths in ASEAN countries and beyond to become change makers in their respective communities,’ while also promoting positive interaction between young people of various ethnicities and cultures.
