An exciting time of development

The University of Mindanao welcomed a few major development projects in its Matina campus last week, which saw officials and guests gather for the blessing of the sports complex’s grandstand bleacher, the new UM Alumni Office, and the ceremonial groundbreaking for the future Learning Commons Building.

On Tuesday, July 24, heads of offices commemorated the blessing of the UM Sports Complex’s 1, 500 capacity bleacher and grandstand, with the rites officiated by Fr. Orlando Borres.

Dr. Guillermo P. Torres Jr was represented by UM Compliance Manager Paolo Torres, who in his address to the attendees underscored the importance of UM’s role in the community; and that the sports stadium and its adjoining facilities, which is the first of its kind in the city, offer opportunities for sports training and recreation not just for UMians, but for people all coming from all over the region.

The bleachers are all imported materials, and roofing is set for installation within the year. The sports complex, which was inaugurated last year, has so far hosted the Davao Region Athletic Association 2018 earlier this year.

The following day, heads of offices and some members of the UM Board of Trustees gathered with Dr. Torres for the blessing of the UM Alumni Office located near the Matina gate. It is a project that is a long time coming and is eyed to be a hub for better coordination of UM graduates near and far.

Lastly, on Friday, July 27,  the ceremonial groundbreaking and laying of a time capsule were conducted in the presence of Dr.Torres, heads of offices, and members of the board of trustees for the future Learning Commons Building. It is a facility that will soon house an extensive array of research and reference material, and become a conducive place of study for students. Coincidentally, the ceremony was held on the founding anniversary of the school.

Indeed for UM, there is no other way to go but up, and no other way to be but to be a continuing work in excellence.
