UM Choir prepping for July 28- 29 Tokyo International Choir Competition

The University of Mindanao’s multi-awarded choir is gearing up for the highly anticipated Tokyo International Choir Competition on July 28 and 29 in Harumi, Tokyo.

The UM Chorale will be competing in the Chamber Choir and Mixed Choir categories, and will represent the Philippines along with the Miriam College Middle School Chorus and the Don Bosco Makati- Boscorale teams; albeit in varying categories.

There are eight categories teams can choose to compete in: Children’s Choir, Senior Choir, Youth Choir, Chamber Choir, Equal Voice Choir, Mixed Choir, Contemporary Choir, and Folklore Choir.

The Tokyo International Choir Competition will be held in Dai-ichi seimei Hall, considered as one of the best music halls in Tokyo, and a grand prize of ¥500, 000 awaits the Grand Prix winner; while winning teams in each category will get ¥50, 000.

UM Chorale is among the 59 choirs who made it through as finalists in the competition out of 137 teams from all over the world who tried their hand at entering the choral competition.
