DAVRAA 2018 opens at UM
Ceremonies for the official start of the Davao Regional Athletic Association Meet 2018 opened without a hitch as student-athletes from all across Davao region proudly paraded their team colors.
The University of Mindanao is proud to have played host to the more than 7, 000 athletes and their guardians, in a truly historic moment where Davao city has the opportunity to host the DAVRAA again after almost two decades since.
It is also timely that DAVRAA came at a time when the new oval track at UM Matina campus, with its sprawling 400 meter Olympic standard rubberized track, and over three hectares of open space for sports like running broad jump, shot putt, and javelin throw can be conducted; was inaugurated just in November of last year.
Philippine Sports Commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey has called UM’s facility a ‘huge aid’ to the government in developing athletes in the country.
“The government can only do so much. With the help of the private sector, especially in building sports facilities, it is always welcome and with the realization of this project, PSC’s job will be to assist in coming up with events,” he said.
The Games will be held on February 19 to 23, with delegates coming from Compostela Valley Province, Davao del Norte, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Digos City, Island Garden City of Samal, Mati City, Panabo City, Tagum City and host Davao City.
