Your chance at an Australian education is possible with Australia Awards

Home to six of the world’s top universities, Australian education is every scholar’s dream.

But those dreams can become reality, as Australia Awards once again opens its doors for those aspiring to seek post-graduate degrees.

Australia Awards Scholarhips are international awards offered by the Australian government for the “next generation of global leaders for development.” Since its creation in the 1950s, there have already been 3, 500 Filipinos who have availed of the awards.

This year, the Australian government is placing even more emphasis on developing education as it earmarked Aus$320 million to fund 1, 271 scholarships and 94 fellowships with its 48 partner institutions.

If you are interested in earning a post-graduate degree through Australia Awards Scholarships, the screening committee is especially keen on accepting graduates who have either scholastic or working backgrounds in Trade and Economics, Local Economic Development, Infrastructure, Peace and Development, Social Protection, Governance, Basic Education, Foreign Relations, Mining and Mining-related fields, and Humanitarian and Disaster Risk Management; as these are the priority themes that applicants should align their proposed program of study to.

The Australia Awards Scholarships is also encouraging more women, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups to apply, as it has made the application process equal to all, regardless of one’s age, gender, ethnicity or disability.

The scholarship program also places emphasis on its beneficiaries’ commitment to give back to their mother land: upon applying, Australia Awards will require you to also submit a Re-Entry Action Plan, wherein you must outline how you intend to use your education in Australia to contribute to development programs in your workplaces or communities.

Applications for the January 2019 intake run from Feb. 1, 2018 to April 30, 2018. You may view the requirements need for application at dfat.gov.au/about-us/publications/Pages/australia-awards-scholarships-policy-handbook.aspx; or at the Australia Awards Philippines website https://www.australiaawardsphilippines.org.
